CBS ran a rather mean spirited “Dramatization” of the Reagan administration. Many angry letters from conservatives later and the movie went to show time.
Democrats however offered with a Dramatization of the clinton failures in dealing with terrorists handle it… just a little bit differently
The Democratic letter to ABC was more blunt than a monetary fine. There was an implied threat to ABC. The senators claim presenting such “a deeply flawed” film to the American public and to schoolchildren (Yes, have to put the children in there) would be a “gross miscarriage of your corporate and civil responsibility.”
The letter goes on to remind ABC executives “The Communications Act of 1934 provides your network with a free broadcast license predicated on the fundamental understanding of your principle obligation to act as a trustee of the public airwaves in serving the public interest.”
In other words, we gave you that license and, if you broadcast anything the government disagrees with, we can take it away.
What I have read about this documentary so far I think several events that happened in the Clinton administration got compressed and dramatized to fit into a 2hour movie
( I mean, lets face facts…. 8 years of events isn’t going to fit purely into 2 hours)
Novak points out some more fun
WASHINGTON — The unusual Democratic outrage over ABC-TV’s “The Path to 9/11” film to be shown Sunday and Monday reflects private concern in the party that the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attack can reverse the political tide running against Republicans.
The highly partisan Rep. Louise Slaughter of New York composed a tough letter to Robert A. Iger, CEO of Walt Disney (ABC’s parent company). The letter cites two scenes from the program casting doubt on the Clinton administration’s legacy in fighting terrorism.
Slaughter added as co-signers of the letter three senior Democrats who would join her as committee chairmen if Democrats win control of the House. They were Rep. John Dingell of Michigan, senior member of the House; Rep. Jane Harman of California, a top party spokesman on national security; and Rep. John Conyers of Michigan, a left-wing leader.
Top Democrats are threatening a TV network when the real buisness of this country needs to be done, and beyond threats of boycotts and the like… serious threats
it puts what they take serious into perspective
